When you think of Hall & Oates, you usually picture either an upbeat blue-eyed soul outfit (circa the '70s) or MTV/pop chart darlings (circa the '80s) -- not love song crooners. But under closer inspection, the duo racked up a surprising amount of tender ballads aimed straight at the heart, as proved by the appropriately titled Love Songs. While the comp features a few reinterpretations of other artists' compositions (the best known probably being their 1980 hit, "You've Lost That Loving Feeling"), the duo had no problem penning their own laid-back love ditties, tops being one of their earliest hits (some would consider their breakthrough), "Sara Smile," as well as the mellow MTV favorite "One on One." If it's a Hall & Oates compilation of uptempo hits you're looking for, then Love Songs wouldn't be your best bet. But if it's strictly their softer side you're after, then this is the one.
