Contemporary Louisiana sounds were presented on this 18-track compilation, culled from various albums. While veteran stylists like Irma Thomas, Tuts Washington, and Johnny Adams were included, the disc contained cuts by other acts not so readily identified with the state (Marcia Ball) and sorely neglected artists (Phillip Walker, James Booker, Lonesome Sundown), as well as then-emerging stars (The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Beausoleil) and both Zydeco (Buckwheat Zydeco) and Cajun performers (D.L. Menard, Jo-El Sonnier).
