By far the most successful of the three EPs in Pizzicato Five's 5x5 campaign (aka Countdown to Ecstasy), London-Paris-Tokyo is a solid four song effort. Keitaro and Konishi show a new maturity and dexterity with their songwriting and arrangements, layering such songs as "Thank You" with complex rhythms and media samples, but never failing to leave room for Nomiya Maki's sweet vocals. There's even a tension between the sweetness of the voice and the darker sounds surfacing in "Tokyo's Coolest Sound" (an Augustus Pablo-esque rewrite of "Lover's Rock") and "Thank You" (which starts off with a soundbite about a police shooting), both of which make this import release worth hunting down.
