For starters, this really is a "fan pack" as it were because it is an officially licensed Experience Hendrix release. This hour-long disc, mixed and engineered by Eddie Kramer collects performances from two shows: in 1968: the January 20, Olympia Theater performance in Paris, and the March 19 Capitol Theater gig in Ottawa. The former gig makes up the lion's share of the recording with a much more bluesed-out (yet very energetic and musically compelling) offering from the band, while the latter accounts for the final three tracks, which include "Fire," "Purple Haze," and the now-ubiquitous cover of the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." Kramer did the best he could with the sound; and while not perfect, should still satisfy Hendrix fans immensely because it is wildly superior to the bootlegs.
