Previous Lilith Fair albums were filled with live performances from the shows themselves, but this CD is basically a studio affair, featuring previously recorded songs from 16 of the artists participating in the festival’s 2010 run. Released more than a decade after the last Lilith Fair, it serves as both a primer for the 2010 lineup and a reminder of what Lilith Fair actually does: that is, offer up a mix of pop, folk, and urban music, all performed by female musicians. The track list is eclectic, running the gamut from established pop stars (Kelly Clarkson, Kesha) to R&B sirens (Rihanna) to indie artists (Tegan and Sara, Brandi Carlile). Lilith organizer Sarah McLachlan kicks things off with "One Dream," a fairly new song that served as the theme for the Vancouver Winter Olympics several months earlier. Apart from that leadoff track, though, Lilith 2010 is essentially a mixtape of older pop songs and folk tunes, the vast majority of which were released months -- even years -- before this record.
