AllMusic Review by

Regarded by many as the greatest female jazz singer in the history of the genre, Ella Fitzgerald possessed a beautiful voice, one that bounced with joy through, in, and around the notes of a melody like a graceful horn player, and if she made a lost love ballad sound somehow hopeful because of it, well, that was Ella. This 20-track set, although it's a bit hit-or-miss at times, features her biggest hit, 1938's "A-Tisket, A-Tasket," and 19 other examples of what this amazing singer could do with a song, no matter what the song was.
