The Song Becomes Remixed: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin is certainly a novel idea for a tribute album: an artist roster composed mostly of '80s metal bands recorded their own covers of various Zep classics, which were then given industrial-flavored remixes by Cleopatra's ample stable of goth-industrial acts. It isn't so much the concept that Zep fans should be leery of; it's more the execution. Most of these versions retain only the most basic musical elements of the originals, stripping the arrangements of their detail and the grooves of their breath until what's left ends up sounding like pretty generic industrial hard-rock. There are moments when the blend starts to come together into something new, but for the most part, there's unfortunately little here that will appeal even to Led Zeppelin diehards.
