AllMusic Review by

The music on this Vogue CD (imported from France) is taken from broadcasts of the radio program called The Lamplighter's Jazz Session, a weekly half-hour show from Pasadena, CA. There are many very interesting performances on the set including clarinetist Barney Bigard and drummer Zutty Singleton playing in a septet, pianist Stan Kenton performing "I'm in the Mood for Love" in a quartet with trumpeter Ray Linn and Singleton, a small group taken from the Count Basie Orchestra romping on "Count Down," Benny Carter (on trumpet) jamming with Bigard, a couple of Big Joe Turner vocals, guitarist Les Paul's quartet, bassist Oscar Pettiford showcased during "Indiana" and a Fletcher Henderson-led jam on "Lamplighter Leap." This release has more than its share of unusual and unique music that will be savored by collectors.
