AllMusic Review by

Based on its title and swingin', mod cover, you'd expect The Ladies Man to veer towards the Esquivel/Martin Denny side of the easy listening bachelor pad spectrum, but the selection is actually far more daring, instead plumbing the Warner and Atlantic catalogs for a smartly compiled set of sinuously funky jazz. Nothing here is terribly rare, but the individual songs sound fantastic in their new context, locking together like the zebra stripes on a shag carpet: highlights include Tony Alvon's "Sexy Coffee Pot," Oscar Brown, Jr.'s "But I Was Cool," Brother Jack McDuff's "Duffin' Around," and Chiles & Pettiford's "The Joker."
