The April Boys are poster boys for the easy listening love song in the Philippines. Derided as old-fashioned by the more hip segment of the local music scene, the April Boys nonetheless make albums that appeal to a wide portion of the populace; in fact, it's safe to say that most people enjoy the April Boys. While many rock and hip-hop groups record one album and are never heard from again, the April Boys continue to give concerts and release a steady flow of albums. The April Boys' 2002 album, Labs Kita (I Love You), is one of them, and is typical of the many easy listening albums released in the Philippines. The melodies are pleasant, soothing, and easy on the ears. Many Philippine easy listening albums contain songs that sound derivative, as though heard before in some variation on other easy listening albums, and while Labs Kita is no exception, some songs are less derivative than usual. "Sweetheart Lab Na Lab Kita" (Sweetheart I Really Love You) and "Parang Kailan Lang" (It's Just Like Before), for example, are nice songs, and "Baby I'm Sorry" works off a charming 1950s ambience. The April Boys sing with zest and earnestness throughout the album, and their style actually has some charm to it. The April Boys have had a steady career singing these kind of songs, and this is the kind of music that sells in the Philippines.
