AllMusic Review by

Leo Feigin's Leo label has long had a reputation for documenting the surprisingly advanced jazz of Eastern Europe and Russia and his Leo Lab subsidiary is continuing this importat work. On this CD the Moscow Composers Orchestra performs a four-part suite by its conductor Vladimir Miller. The music is shocking at first (one has to listen to it without any preconceptions or expectations of conventional swinging) but, as one becomes accustomed to the long tones and the emotional intensity, the music becomes magically coherent and logical. The 18-piece orchestra, which displays more than its share of fire and passion, also pays close attention to dynamics and building up each of the movements. It's well worth checking out for those with open ears.
