AllMusic Review by

The film King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters follows a cross-country duel between two gamers vying for the 2007 Guinness World Record high score in Donkey Kong. Some might argue that compiling a soundtrack for a documentary of this nature would involve simply slapping the film's name on the cover of Rush's 2112, but the producers have put together something far more entertaining. Composer Craig Richey's sparse, oddly melancholy score aside, pitting the protagonists against an audio backdrop of classical masterpieces "Flight of the Valkyries"/"In the Hall of the Mountain King," snippets of dialogue, and cheesy '80s radio hits like "Obsession" by Animotion, Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" and most importantly Joe Esposito's "You're the Best" (from The Karate Kid soundtrack) not only celebrates the larger than life/hopelessly uncool image of the gaming community itself, it honors the geek in all of us.
