AllMusic Review by

King Guitar offers a bizarre assortment of material, from Continental pop to Western movie themes to "Tiny Bubbles." "For a Few Dollars More" is in the tradition of Caiola's biggest hits, "The Magnificent Seven" and "Bonanza," but his version of "Sleep Walk" turns Santo & Johnny's guitar classic into an enjoyable wah-wah exhibition. Caiola recasts "Something Stupid" as a Spanish guitar duet with his son, Al Caiola Jr., and uses "Kansas City" as a platform from which to rock his hardest. King Guitar's flaw is that it vacillates between hard-hitting guitar music and snoozy Bert Kaempfert covers which, generally speaking, appeal to different audiences. Consequently, most listeners will find King Guitar only sporadically interesting.
