Terra Sul, a very musical Brazilian-based unit led by guitarist Ricardo Peixoto (who wrote or co-wrote all but one of the 11 originals), plays a set of upbeat pop/jazz on the group's Mojazz debut. In an odd bit of programming, six of the first seven selections feature vocalists Mauro Saldanha, Claudia Villela and Marquinho Brasil but the concluding four songs are all instrumentals. Paul McCandless contributes a particularly passionate soprano solo on the opening track "Lands" and then is not heard from again. But overall this easy-listening date is enjoyable and grooves nicely even if it is not for purists. Pop/jazz fans will find it quite satisfying.
