A "Nordic symphony," according to the liner notes (indeed, the songs are credited simply as "1st Movement" through "6th Movement"), Nordisk was written and recorded by Kim Nyberg and Matias Eriksson. Softly murmuring spoken word segments in Norwegian crop up intermittently between the neo-romantic curlicues of Nyberg's folk-influenced melodies, but the musical focus is entirely on the diaphanous grace of the fully orchestral arrangements. Progressive rock that's dropped the "rock" aspect of things entirely, Nordisk is a record one could play for one's high-school music teacher, the one who thought the Beatles were agents of the Communists; Nyberg is no Dvorak or Grieg -- he's not even quite a Mike Oldfield -- but Nordisk works just fine as background listening that most often repays more careful listening.
