Released as a precursor to The Sweet Sounds of Detroit, Kids & Candy takes the listener on a ride through a country twang-filled, Willy Wonka-inspired world, led by Detroit's Loretta & the Larkspurs. The limited-edition disc sold out quickly in one night at Detroit's Magic Stick. Containing just three songs, the beefed-up single became a hot item. "You're My Candy" is quintessential Loretta Lucas. Her light, soothing voice is almost haunting in the manner of 1950s traditional country stars. On this track, Lucas rattles off a list of sweets she'd rather go without just to have the one piece of candy she desperately wants: her true love. Filled with acoustic guitars and angelic backup vocals, the song takes on an almost lullaby-like feel. "Choo Choo Charlie" continues the candy theme as Lucas pines for Good'n'Plenties. The second song, much like the first, lacks traditional drums and achieves a relaxed feel. Rounding up Kids & Candy is "Down by the Bay." In a media-saturated society where it becomes harder and harder to find music that both adults and children can share together, this final track might just be a notable exception. Loretta & the Larkspurs join together on vocals on this track to provide a fitting end to the three-track single.
