This 1996 double CD releases for the first time two complete sets by pianist Monty Alexander's Trio (with bassist Bob Maize and drummer Frank Gant) from a 1979 engagement at Atlanta's E.J.'s, a club that closed in 1982. Alexander is in typically fine form but nothing all that unusual occurs and some of the songs, five of which are over ten minutes long, stretch on a bit past their optimum length. The pianist has recorded many more significant sets but this is a worthwhile effort that his fans may want to search for. Highlights include "Work Song," "Tricrotism," "On Green Dolphin Street" and a lengthy "Just In Time."
