This CD is professional, well-recorded, and very much up to snuff in terms of meeting Williams' standard as a motion picture composer. The problem is simply that the music has a listless quality to it that even enthusiastic performances fail to overcome -- despite the appearance of familiar Jurassic Park themes and a fairly enthusiastic orchestral performance, there's nothing all that gripping about Williams' work here. It may well have been a matter of routine; the film itself fails to work up much in the way of energy, unlike the first film. The CD includes 69 minutes of music, little of which stays in memory. The packaging for the underscore album, as an incidental note, is an attempt at doing things a little differently -- the cardboard sleeve unfolds into a 3D diorama. As with the music, however, the sleeve has a rather limp quality to it.
