AllMusic Review by

Along with Lightnin' Hopkins, John Lee Hooker is one of the most recorded bluesmen. Consequently, many of his sessions, both studio and live, have fallen through the cracks. Consider LIVE IN CONCERT as sonic caulking then, filling in one of the many holes in the Hooker discography. There's virtually no recording info here, though the graphics suggest the late-'60s Fillmore-style concert posters. Whatever the cuts' origin, they're well recorded, with a steady but unobtrusive band providing backing. Hooker runs through older items like his classic "Sally Mae" with aplomb, his husky voice and snaky guitar darting in and around the patented Hooker stomp. Of historical note is a lengthy, revealing interview segment dated 1973. Not quite definitive, but certainly representative of the live Hooker experience, LIVE IN CONCERT is recommended to hardcore fans.
