In 1988 Steve Winfield and Jon Coe released an album of gentle electronic space music called Crystal Silence under the name Mirage. On their second collaboration -- now using their own names -- they offer us two 25-minute tracks, "Emerald Voyage" and "Jeweled Horizons," that are composed at 60 beats per minute, as in the largo movements of baroque music that have recently been discovered to provide the optimal sonic environment for superlearning. It works by inducing alpha brainwaves in the listener which produce a state of alert relaxation ideal for enhancing the learning process. This is a tape of classic space music, with layered synthesizers creating ever-shifting textures of harmonious sounds.
