In the late '70s United Artists temporarily revived the Pacific Jazz label with a series of sampler LPs. This particular one has a dozen performances from a two-year period with such West Coast cool jazz stars as baritonist Gerry Mulligan, trumpeters Chet Baker and Jack Sheldon, altoist Bud Shank, flugelhornist Shorty Rogers, guitarist Laurindo Almeida, valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer, Zoot Sims on tenor, pianist Hampton Hawes and even trumpeter Clifford Brown heard with a variety of groups. This was a well-conceived if short-lived series that has been succeeded by more extensive CD programs.
