AllMusic Review by

Harlequin released an extensive LP series in the mid-'80s featuring early jazz as played in different countries around the world. Relatively few Canadian recordings were made prior to 1960 but this album has a strong variety. Starting with a Harry Thomas piano roll from 1916 and including a surprisingly hot number from Guy Lombardo (1924's "Cotton Pickers Ball"), a very rare acetate from cornetist Trump Davidson in 1937 and pianist Oscar Peterson's earliest recordings (two radio airchecks from 1944), the album hints at what was largely undocumented; it's recommended to jazz historians.
