I've Found Someone of My Own is arguably the finest album from one of the most neglected vocalist of the late '60s and '70s, Cal Smith. On this record, he tackles both classic honky tonk tunes, new country cuts, pop songs, R&B and soul numbers, which are all given a contemporary, early '70s gloss. But its Smith, with his haunting, pure voice gives each cut country grit, bringing each song down to earth. It's a record that convinces you Smith, in a perfect world, would have been a star.
