A poorly recorded set of live performances, these same Mahalia Jackson cuts have appeared in varying sequences under several different titles over the years, including The Gold Collection (1998 from Fine Tune), Gospel Queen (1999 from Hallmark), and Soul of a Woman (2000 from Dressed to Kill). The sound on all of these is patently subpar, and this great singer deserves better representation. Only die-hard collectors should approach any of these discs, and then only with foreknowledge and caution.
