AllMusic Review by

On his 2006 album, IT'S A GOOD THING, jazz vocalist Jamie Davis performs a set of (primarily) pop standards. Backed by a full orchestra, the deep-voiced singer offers up vibrant takes on two Stevie Wonder classics (a boisterous "Isn't She Lovely" and a swinging "Another Star") and a jaunty version of the Beatles' "Something," while also showing off his scatting chops on a shuffling rendition of Thelonious Monk's "Straight No Chaser." For fans of big-band music and vocal jazz, IT'S A GOOD THING is, well, a very good thing, indeed. (Note: The release includes a making-of-the-album DVD.)
