Originally trained as a composer, Christina Kubisch departed from the stifling world of the conservatory to become one of the first generation of sound artists. Concerned with a synthesis of material and aesthetic forms and their relation to acoustic space, Kubisch’s work draws upon environmental phenomena for much of its creative impetus. FIVE ELECTRICAL WALKS reveals the hidden world of sound emanating from electromagnetic waves appearing in the urban environment, and gathers a surprisingly rich palette of sounds via specially designed microphones. The gently modulating hums, clicks, and whirs are sequenced into subtly evolving and hypnotic patterns. Finding a hidden universe of sound in the unlikeliest of places, FIVE ELECTRICAL WALKS decodes the complex musical language of electromagnetism.
