The extreme metal playing field is becoming increasingly more crowded circa the early 21st century. It appears that with every new episode of Headbanger's Ball, there's another group that features a singer who screams and growls, guitarists obsessed with Iron Maiden-style harmonies, metronome-perfect drumming, goth keyboards, and overall hard-hitting music. And there appears to be no end in sight to this ever-growing pile of similarly styled bands, as evidenced by the Arcane Order and their 2008 release, In the Wake of Collisions. See the aforementioned musical description, and you'll know what's in store on such ditties as "Between Reason and Hubris" and "Eruptions of Red." Not a lot of surprises here, folks, but if you like your extreme metal straight-ahead and to the point, give In the Wake of Collisions a try.
