Joe Gransden is an up and coming trumpeter (27 at the time of this recording) who clearly models his occasional singing and (to a lesser extent) his trumpet playing after Chet Baker. He has an appealing voice and a mellow fluid trumpet style that fits the standard-oriented material on his debut quite well. This is an excellent quartet set with some fine solos also contributed by pianist Bill Anschell. Joe Gransden will certainly get more original with time; this set is a fine start for his solo career.
