John Coltrane's daughter, singer Miki Coltrane, sounds pretty impressive during her recording debut. The material, all but one being originals by Scott Hiltzik (seven of which were co-written by Miki), is decent, although none of the songs were destined to become standards. The final number, John Coltrane's "Lazy Bird," has Miki Coltrane assisted by a quartet that includes brother Ravi on tenor and mother Alice on piano. It whets one's appetite to hear her perform a full set of standards, for she has an appealing voice and swings well.
