This R&B vocal outfit's final album offers several worthy moments -- both funky and sublime -- but concentrates a bit too much on slick production and Robbie Danzie's lead vocals. While the previous three albums contained a lot of programming and production gimmicks, the use was unique and satisfying. Here, on cuts like "I Suggest" and "Maybe It Was Just a Dream," it's quite vacuous and indistinguishable. And where group members Roberta Stiger and Tina Scott previously participated actively in background vocals, and at times in leads, here their work often is placed way in the distance to make room for Danzie's indulgent leads and self-harmonizing. Material-wise, though, the quiet-storm ballads "We Had a Love" and "Just Don't Make It Hurt," as well as the sassy new jack groove "Arrogant," are all of considerable caliber. It's just a shame most of the other songs and the group's character as a unit get lost in technology.
