In case there was any doubt that drinking and hanging around in bars continues to be a preoccupation in country music, this ten-song compilation should dispel it. From George Jones and James Taylor's 1978 hit "Bartender's Blues" to Rick Trevino's 1994 chart single "Honky Tonk Crowd," these singers proclaim the wonders of the nightlife and the joy of crying in your beer. The most successful are Doug Stone, whose "A Jukebox with a Country Song" topped the charts in 1992 by lamenting that the local watering hole had turned into a fern bar, and Vern Gosdin, who went to number one in 1988 with "Set 'Em Up Joe." But all these night owls have something to howl about.
