Bruce Springsteen had always sought to re-create Phil Spector's Wall of Sound with his E-Street Band (one listen to "Born to Run" is all the proof you need), so when Steven Van Zandt wrote "All Alone on Christmas" for ex-Phil Spector singer par excellence Darlene Love, he also used four other former E-Streeters to back her up on this full-scale production, adding six horns, bells, tambourines, and extra percussion, to outdo the "Boss" in aping the Wall of Sound. The remainder of the CD, unfortunately, is filled with dreck from Bette Midler, Atlantic Starr, and even a later (read: subpar) Johnny Mathis track. Will someone please give Darlene Love her own record?
