Though the Hummers' third album marks the first time that the title can be reproduced with the Western alphabet (this time out it's Icelandic for "listen"), that may be the only concession they've made to straightforwardness. The band has moved away from its simpler funk style into something a bit harder and more complex, reminiscent more of Bitches Brew this time out. The scratching added into the mix is often dissonant and challenging. It's not a particularly inviting sound much of the time, and it will lose the casual listener -- those who break through will find it a real treat.
