Santa Cruz quintet Arsonists Get All the Girls are not taking the easy way out. The music on their debut album, HITS FROM THE BOW, is deathcore that challenges expectations at every turn. From their liberal use of synths to the impossible angles of the breakneck guitar solos, everything about them refuses metal formula. Songs like “Red Meat and Big Trucks” include the rolling drums, grunting vocals, and scraping riffs of death metal, but also contain unusual textures and time-signature changes that cause brain damage. Their song titles are uniformly jokey, but these guys are dead serious about their craft.
