AllMusic Review by

Al Hirt's debut with RCA is generally Dixieland-oriented and much better than what would follow. Hirt is explosive on such numbers as "I Love Paris," "Jazz Me Blues," "Cornet Chop Suey" and "Christopher Columbus," but the renditions are quite brief (all under 3½ minutes) and were clearly recorded with hopes of radio airplay. Trombonist Jack DeLaney and clarinetist Pee Wee Spitelera are fine in a supporting role behind "The King."
