This intriguing CD was part of MCA's short-lived Master Series. Steel drummer Robert Greenidge and his co-leader, organist/pianist/synthesizer player Michael Utley, mostly made their livings on pop, R&B, and rock sessions, but this instrumental set ranges from calypsoes and reggae to jazz-influenced music. Greenidge contributed five songs and Utley the other three. On such titles as "Life of a Pan Man," "Dancing in the Rain," "Reggae for My Baby," and "Sweet Heat," they show that they were quite capable of being lead rather than background players, and the results are melodic, groovin', and happily accessible.
