AllMusic Review by

Led by founder and lead vocalist Joe Ligon, the Mighty Clouds of Joy changed the standard for gospel quartets when Ligon added a full-fledged R&B-influenced band to the mix in the early 1960s, literally dragging gospel into its modern era, even scoring a cross-over disco hit, "Mighty High." This set pre-dates that left-field dancefloor hit, though, collecting ten tracks recorded between 1960 and 1966 during the group's stay with Peacock Records, arguably a time that saw the quartet at its energetic and creative peak.
