AllMusic Review by

With 28 tracks of vintage mainstream Hammond organ sides recorded by a variety of players (none exactly household names) between 1944 and 1956, the so-called "golden age" for the instrument, this set can be a bit disorienting, a bit like walking into a chilled-out wedding reception while hearing strains of roller rink music drift in through an open window. Some of these tracks are so soothing that it's obvious they were meant to be background music, some are straight lounge pieces, and some come close to soul-jazz or even the outer edges of what could be called rock & roll (Lenny Dee's chugging "Plantation Boogie" gets close to that line here). The casual listener will more than likely check out after a few tracks, but die-hard fans of the Hammond organ (and there are many) will no doubt find this to be close to Hammond Heaven.
