AllMusic Review by

An early entry in the field of compact discs. This album features Sandor Deki Lakatos and his unnamed gypsy band presumably in live performances in some 14 cities throughout the world (although to their credit, the recordings sound as though they are studio recordings). The songs range from traditional Yiddish tunes to Japanese folk songs to Russian (yes) tangos to Italian opera numbers, with everything in between represented as well. The music is surprisingly well performed given the relative obscurity of the group, and the choices of songs leave nothing to complain about as far as possible exclusions from the repertoire (even Mikis Theodorakis' theme to Zorba the Greek is present here). Perhaps the best purpose for the album is as a showcase for the incredible versatility of a good gypsy violin player. Pick it up for a fine collection of a ridiculously broad spectrum of musical genres, all performed within the basic style of one good violin player (and a fine cimbalom player to boot).
