While the first two CDs in this three-volume series (all recorded within a three-day period) paid tribute to Jelly Roll Morton in his New Orleans and Chicago periods (New Orleans Joys and Chicago Breakdown), this set of unaccompanied piano solos by the talented Butch Thompson has works by Eubie Blake, Willie "The Lion" Smith, James P. Johnson and Fats Waller plus the title cut (the lone Morton song). Thompson's New Orleans-influenced stride style revitazies such songs as "Charleston Rag," "Echo of Spring," "Handful of Keys" and "Snowy Mornin' Blues." All three of the solo projects, while not essential, are excellent examples of Thompson's joyous playing.
