Golden Throats, Vol. 4: Celebrities Butcher the Beatles is one of the better installments in Rhino's series celebrating the ludicrously poor vocal talents of the rich and famous. The key to this series is being familiar with the original versions, because that is the only way to realize how terrible and silly these covers are. Since the Beatles' catalog is the best-known modern songbook, it makes sense that anyone, especially celebrities with a vanity album, would cover their songs. Therefore, it's easy to appreciate the butcherings that William Shatner, Telly Savalas, Claudine Longet and Joe Pesci give these songs. Many of these cuts are enjoyable the first time through, but it's hard to listen to Golden Throats, Vol. 4 repeatedly unless you're playing it for friends.
