God Bless Africa includes a mix of modernized, electric gospel and raw, a cappella gospel and formal, religious choral work from groups including the well-known Ladysmith Black Mambazo (one song), the similar Masizakhe Christian Soldiers, the Lusanda Spiritual Group (quite popular in South Africa), and many church choirs. Some of these unknown choirs, such as Majalefa a Morena, Ubuhle Beniniva (both performances will sound somewhat familiar to fans of early American blues and shouts), and Izikhova Ezimnqini deliver some of the most moving a cappella performances of the compilation, while Witness of God and Holy Spirits are among some of the artists who make heavy use of synthesizers and dance beats. Most of the selections heard on this compilation appeared previously on the album Gospel Spirit of Africa.
