Joel Grey's second triumph on Broadway (after Cabaret) was this musical biography of George M. Cohan, who ruled the Great White Way at the turn of the century. Unlike the Jimmy Cagney movie, the show pulled no punches, but what really mattered were The Cohan songs, including his biggest hits, "Over There" and "Give My Regards to Broadway." A young Bernadette Peters played Cohan's sister.
