AllMusic Review by

In 1931, violinist Gene Kardos formed a dance band that stood out from most of its competitors due to its ability to play reasonably hot jazz rather than just sticking to ballads. Fortunately the unit recorded often for a couple years and its first 23 recordings have been reissued on this CD. The band did not have any major names or soloists but the musicianship was strong, the ensemble sound was appealing, and the hot solos worked well with the vocals of Dick Robertson, Kardos, and Joel Shaw. This obscure music will be easily enjoyed by fans of early-Depression-era hot dance bands.
