AllMusic Review by

Released to capitalize on two obsessions of 1997 -- the rise of electronic music and Fox-TV's series The X-Files -- Future: A Journey Through the Electric Underground nevertheless does a good job of introducing the listener to several of the best techno, ambient and jungle acts (Chemical Brothers, µ-ziq, Photek) as well as providing tracks by ambient innovators like Brian Eno, Harold Budd, David Toop, and Paul Schutze. Gillian Anderson, co-star of The X-Files' (who also hosted the British documentary of the same name) appears on two abysmal tracks with the previously unheard of Hal. Other than her weak performances, the choices are impeccable.
