For the single release of "Fury Eyes," Pascal Gabriel was recruited to see what could be done in a more commercial remix vein. The end result is an intriguing surprise, keeping the same swing and sass of the original but adding a quick bassline that recurs throughout the song and additional synth-stabs and drum echoes on the breaks. If the result wasn't a smash single per se, it was an interesting combination of the Creatures' art and radio-friendly gloss. Three specific mixes were created by Gabriel: The basic 7" remix is the best and most concise, but the "20/20 mix" and the "dub mix" have a bit of fun as well, if generally just extending what was on the original remix. A wholly original cut fleshes out the release: "Abstinence," a self-produced instrumental that shimmers and shakes in a nicely mysterious fashion (if anything, it sounds like something the Cure would do). A format note: For its American CD release, Geffen added two tracks from the Standing There EP, the lengthy "Andalusian mix" of that song and "Divided."
