Shelly Thunder was one of the early artists to emerge from dancehall reggae and make a splash on the hip-hop/urban market. She preceded Shabba Ranks, Maxi Priest, and Mad Cobra, but wasn't nearly as explicit. Her sound was more teasing and suggestive and didn't have as much sophisticated production and studio technology. In fact, Thunder now seems tame compared to what's come since, but was deemed a pioneer in the late '80s.
