For a debut, Force 7 spreads over relaxed curls of acid jazz and often forgets to show some signs of life with their solid turntablist savoir-faire. The fact that the group is situated in Chico and has friends like Grand Royal's Scapegoat Wax is misleading. Force 7 prefers a weaker allegiance for garage-sale genre ogling, opting to noodle their heads to the funkier, more contrived branch of hip-hop that white Californian suburbanites pull off so well. And this is why any return visits will be to hear Badrock. The band's core DJ, or "WikiWikiologist," has an ear for lighting up the nonadhesive grooving, especially in the better parts of "Buckets," "Super Ghat," and the bonus hidden track that's not a long way from what would happen if the Boards of Canada shared too many spicy enchiladas with Cut Chemist and Fat Cat's Live Human.
