While a small but passionate sect of purists and vinyl fetishists ensure that the rarest Northern soul singles still command astronomical prices on secondary markets like eBay, everyone else can enjoy the lost riches of '60s soul on CD, literally paying pennies for compilations of rare grooves once possessed only by the most diligent, fortunate, and deep-pocketed collectors. The first volume in the tongue-in-cheek For Millionaires Only series assembles some of the scarcest singles ever to pack Northern dancefloors, some so rare they were mastered directly from vinyl -- still, the sound quality is for the most part solid throughout, and in any case the disc is a bargain at virtually any price given the cumulative market value of the music contained herein. Highlights include the Antiques' "Go for Yourself," Johnny Honeycutt's "I'm Coming Over," Eddie Mercury & the Soul Searchers' "Lonely Girl," and William Powell's "Heartache Souvenirs."
