Face of a Fighter was originally recorded in 1960 in Nash Vegas but went unreleased until 1978 when it was issued on Willie Nelson's own Lone Star label. This compilation on the Synergy Entertainment label may have the same title but it is a different recording -- though it contains seven of that original album's ten tracks and adds seven more from the early '60s. Because of its modest price point, some may consider this just a superfluous filler item, but that's just plain wrong. Synergy has employed Post Haste Sound and remastered each cut painstakingly and the sound is warm and full. The package is handsome if light on details, and while there are better Nelson comps out there, for the money, those interested in his early period can't go wrong.
